Cary, North Carolina, May 24, 2021 – Chiesi USA (key-ay-zee), the U.S. affiliate of Chiesi Farmaceutici, an international research-focused healthcare Group (Chiesi Group), was named Company of the Year by the Triangle Business Journal 2021 Life Sciences Awards in honor of its noteworthy work in the life sciences industry. The recognition celebrates the contributions of Triangle-area individuals and research organizations in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, clinical research, medical devices and more.
In the face of significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, Chiesi was proud to achieve financial, clinical and leadership successes. In 2020, net revenue increased 25.5%, and employee count increased 28 members to a total of 345. Chiesi received U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of an add-on maintenance therapy in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients 18 years of age and older. The approval expanded the company’s CF portfolio.
As 2020 came to a close, Chiesi appointed longtime team member Jon Zwinski as General Manager and Chief Executive Officer to advance the company’s global therapeutic efforts and succeed Ken McBean, who held the position since September 2011.
Chiesi’s progress in 2020 is owed to the measures it put in place to support employees, patients, healthcare providers and local community partners. Chiesi continued the production and supply of medicines and created the Chiesi Emergency Management Team to help safeguard the health and safety of all employees.
